Toy castles and fairy tales

Knight castles, a castle farm and palace structures are just a few examples of the toys castles in this exhibition. The oldest date from approximately 1885. The castles were built in the East of Germany from the end of the 19th century up to the second world war.

 

The castles are made of wood that has been painted by hand or by using templates with paint sprayed. They are made up of individual components which can be stored in the foot of the Castle. A few of the exposed castles were originally used as a decoration material in showcases of toy stores.

 

Diorama's with wonderful crafted fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen complete this romantic exhibition.
