Dr. W.G.L. Wieringa

Diorama roman senate Dr.W.G.L.Wieringa

Dr. W.G.L. Wieringa (1889-1973) was a Haarlem mathematics master who made between 1932 and 1960 more than 50 socio-historical dioramas with scenes from the classic antiquity, the biblical history and the Dutch national history. From the palace garden of Amenhotep III in Egypt, c. 1380 BC to the exile of Napoleon on St. Helena from 1815 to 1821.

Some dioramas he made in common with his pupils to instil love to history in their minds. In 1951 Queen Juliana of the Netherlands invited Mr. Wieringa, to give history lessons from his dioramas, to the form of Princess Beatrix in the Baarn Lyceum. These dioramas form a part of the collection of the National Tin Figure Museum now.
