Home | Casting CastingDemonstration by Regina Sonntag of engraving and casting tin figures.
Making a tin figureTin figures are made from an alloy of tin and lead (i.e.: Pewter). In France and Italy one does not say 'tin figure' but 'lead figure'. The liquid metal is cast in a casting-mould after which, when cool, the figure may be painted. There are three kinds of figures: flats, semi-flats and round (or 3D) figures.
CastingDuring holidays you can see how tin figures are made. Every Thursday casting demonstrations are held. These demonstrations are for free. During the rest of the year we give demonstrations on agreement for groups. More information>>
Painting tin figuresDuring holidays painting workshops are held for children on Tuesday - and Wednesday afternoons. An assistant is ready to help you . During the rest of the year groups can paint tin figures on agreement, for a consideration. More information >> On the photograph you see Quint Tempelman, one of our volunteers, at work to paint tin figures for a Nativity stable. A much sought product! |
